Arabic stations translating

They are doing an extreme effort to have the same shows that ran in the US to run here less than 24 hours later, and having the subtitles on them, however I do believe channels like MBC should fire its entire translation staff, they are doing a lousy job.

I watched two hours of programming on each of MBC4 and MBC2 without sound, as for MBC4 programming, the stories were incoherent, the mistakes were enormous and they made absolutely no sense. It sounded as if the translators didn't actually read what they wrote. The movies on MBC2 had less mistakes but at one point a single mistake in the MALCOLM X movie had me baffled and I actually went on the Internet to pullout what was actually said.

It turns out a "not" was missing in the subtitles, I watched the movie on a rerun and obviously the same mistake was there and that mistake had the whole story taken askew, it was a crime of translation.

I will never in a million years watch a movie or a show on MBC networks with subtitles without understanding the language, I had to look for a bit but I found a caricature that MBC reminded me of, here it is.

Peace, out

So we beat Barca on the away, big deal!!

Don't get me wrong it was a match worth seeing, we conceded a goal early and it took a while to overcome them, but this is not my fear, see while we have a much higher performance on the home games, and since we have won the away with hardships and our ball possession was very bad, we will definitely win the home, since we will be able to focus on Zambrotta and the other Barcelonian troublemakers, plus it WILL be ANFIELD.

The next round is where it really gets hard, sorry, but Barcelona is a peace of cake when compared to the competition ahead.

NICE GAME lads

Tommorow don't matter, barca is out

Because no matter what happens tomorrow, we will win the home game, because thats what Liverpool does, we should be able to get a tie with Barcelona at least and a win is not that far fetched. The bookmakers have it at 5/1, then we will go on to win at the home game and off to the quarter-finals. I would rather had LFC played an easier game just for the sake of the premiership, but c'est la vie.

Good luck LFC

Coalition Forces

I remember the day when "Coalition Forces" or the "Coalition of the Willing" was the official name for the troops in Iraq, now all the Bush calls them is "our troops", but its about time! For one, Soldiers should get credit for what they do, but also because the bottom 11 countries -in order of number of soldiers currently serving- in the coalition have contributed only 571!!!

That is absolutely ridiculuos, there are 16 countries which have pulled their troops, which amount to 7602, with the two coming from Iceland. I guess those two soldiers where in it for the adventure but then they got scared, it would have been too bad if one of them died, I would have had this post entitled "50% of Icelandic forces in Iraq killed with a single bullet".

The current 140,000 US troops are assisted by 983 in forces from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq which includes four countries and 14,986 from 24 countries and with the UK and North Korea contributing around 63% of those with 7,100 and 2,300 respectively.

Those are the only two countries that currently contribute more than 1,000 troops in the effort, with Slovenia sending only 4 as the lowest current contributor. Many of those countries send their troops as non-combatants, basically, de-mining, medics, transportation aid, and Engineers.

124 non-Anglo-American troops died and 132 died from the United Kingdom, the US has confirmed 3151 casualties to date. Around 301,000 soldiers participated in the Invasion and 250,000 of them from the United States, 45,000 from the UK and the rest are from Australia, Poland and Denmark. Thats 5 out of every 6 from the US and 0.9 out of 6 is British.

The Coalition of the Willing started with only 5 countries willing to invade and to think the second current contributor are Private Military Contractors (PMC), PMCs are essentially mercenaries but with companies to collect for them, they currently number 35,000.

The proper terming of this Coalition is the United-States-Mercenary-And-Rare-International-Noncombat-Effort (USMARINE), I guess thats why bush calls them "our troops".

Most Interesting Interview

“Israel, as a society, also suppressed the memory of its war against the local Palestinians, because it couldn't really come to terms with the fact that it expelled Arabs, committed atrocities against them, dispossessed them. This was like admitting that the noble Jewish dream of statehood was stained forever by a major injustice committed against the Palestinians and that the Jewish state was born in sin.” I think a lot of people would be surprised to hear that the author of these words is the former Foreign Minister of Israel.

Shlomo Ben-Ami the Israeli Foreign Minister under Ehud Barak, said the above phrase and many other historic remarks that are usually only said by historians, which he is.

I strongly encourage everyone to see this debate, it is more of an interview than a debate, a friendly discussion between rational men, Mn. Ben-Ami and Dr. Finkelstein. Both are trained scholars and civilized men. I was more surprised when I heard him say "If I were a Palestinian, I would have rejected Camp David."
